The House on Butler

Our Story

Chapter One

A New Era on Butler Street

In the heart of Lawrenceville, a new chapter begins at 4207 Butler Street — the space once home to Hambone’s, a cherished local bar. Hambone’s closed its doors in 2020 after thirty years, following the passing of its owner, Jeffrey Holt. But the spirit of community, laughter, and great times lives on through Butler Street Derby.

Led by Jack Welsh and his team, Butler Street Derby was born out of a vision to honor that legacy while creating something entirely new. After two years of renovations, the space is now a modern bar and restaurant serving up more than just good food — a menu of fry-forward pub fare, smash burgers, and generous portions of fries that pay tribute to the legendary ‘O’ fries Pittsburghers know and love.
